Armchair Junking: Memorial Day Military Round Up

This military themed Memorial Day round up is especially for our friend Mike, an Army medic and one of our biggest followers. Mike, hopefully you and Greer can set up a nice man-cave inspired by some of these great mantiques.

1) For you bookshelf, display this great pair of brass vintage military binoculars.

2) Decorate the walls with vintage photos, such as this WWII army panoramic picture.

3) While this vintage army cot may not be a comfortable bed for a human, Ella the cat may find it to be a cozy perch.

4) Cover the cot with a stack of wool army camp blankets

5) A green Army flashlight could be used as extra lighting.

6) This industrial metal Army container marked “Reusable Container. Do not destroy.” could be great storage for remote controls or magazines.

Get It Together: “Can’t Hold Us” Video

Erika and I both love Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, so we were excited for today’s release of their new video for “Can’t Hold Us”. Little did we know, there is an amazing scene that speaks to our passion: a vintage red pickup driving through a field with the ultimate thrift shop living room on the back of a trailer (check it out at about minute 2:55)!

Do you want a room like his? Unfortunately, Macklemore has an advantage as the king of thrifting, but we can try…

Around Town: Brooklyn Flea & Green-Wood Cemetery

Since the last weekend of February, I’ve been to the New Jersey suburbs twice, Potomac, and Chicago as well as a weekend at the Hello Etsy: Re-Imagining the Marketplace conference. So this past weekend, I spent Saturday and Sunday enjoying Brooklyn: my neighborhood of Fort Greene, as well as Park Slope and Greenwood. It was nice to wander around without any specific obligations and to see where the day would take me.

Brooklyn Flea: Outdoors in Fort Greene

I love this whimsical silverware set with faux bois handles, and it even includes a carving knife and meat fork. Wouldn’t this be great out on a picnic table, surrounded by pine trees and with steaks fresh off the grill?

Even the housewares and toiletries at the Brooklyn Flea are impressively displayed. I wanted to bring home this collapsable corner shelf and antique wooden ironing board.

The Gowanus Furniture Company was selling these incredible cutting boards, but why buy it pre-made when you can attend classes to make your own?  They were also selling the wooden bowls above. I’m certain that our great-great grand children will find these heirloom quality bowls at flea markets 100 years from now.

Armchair Junking: Table Lamps Round Up

Doesn’t light just bring so much to a room? Whether it’s natural light in the morning, or a perfectly placed floor lamp, a warm glow can really pull a space together. This week I’m celebrating almost spring and rounding up some vintage lamps to keep us (and our homes) feeling bright and sunny.
1. The perfect color combo – a vintage alabaster base with a beautiful gray shade.
2. A charming brass, industrial model perfect for a small office.
