Farmhouse Friday: Book Your Summer Rentals (Part 5)

As May comes to a close and our month of looking at amazing summer rental houses ends, we wanted to leave you with two houses near some fantastic museums celebrating American rural history that we’ve visited: The Farmers’ Museum in Cooperstown, NY and the Shelburne Museum in Shelburne, VT.

The Farmers’ Museum showcases US rural life during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and the Shelburne Museum is a public display of the private collections of the Havemeyer-Webb families, from folk art to Impressionist paintings. Both museums feature incredible buildings that were brought to the museums from around the northeast.  In fact, we’re heading to Shelburne Museum again next Friday during our weekend in Ticonderoga.

Upstate New York: Cooperstown, NY

Boasting six bedrooms and five bathrooms, this Cooperstown farmhouse has room to spare! Invite friends and family to join you for a week of exploring the Baseball Hall of Fame, the Farmers’ Museum, and the Fenimore Art Museum. Be sure to check out the Otesaga Resort and take a boat ride on the Glimmerglass Queen. For the most unique antiques I’ve ever seen, spend hours in Wood Bull Antiques just south of town (check out what our friend Katie bought during our last visit).

New England: Charlotte, VT

I love this shingled cottage that’s not far from Shelburne, VT. The Shelburne Museum has incredible wares that the collector in me envies, and we hope to make it to Shelburne Farms when we visit again next Friday! The modern kitchen, with an eat-in dining area, is exactly what you want in a rental – you won’t want to go out to eat. Most of all, I’m dying to explore the loft!

Farmhouse Friday: Summer Rentals (Part 4)

After our incredible weekend at High Pocket Farm in Shelburne Falls, we’ve fallen more in love with the Berkshires region!

Upstate New York: Stephentown, NY

I love this little farmhouse, with its cozy living room and sunny kitchen. With over 300 acres, it is the largest private property available in the Berkshires, giving you plenty of land for hikes or horseshoes.  And with five bedrooms, there’s plenty of room for a family getaway or for entertaining friends.

5 BR/2 Bath

New England: Lenox, MA

I absolutely love this Victorian house tucked away in Lenox, MA, not far from the Tanglewood estate, where the Boston Symphony Orchestra decamps to every summer for a series of outdoor concerts. The amazing Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health is also only a short walk away. The house itself has charming, farmhouse detailing and a lovely little hammock in the side garden for afternoon naps overlooking the meadow.

Farmhouse Friday: Book Your Summer Rental (Part 3)

When we chose to look at summer rentals for the first Farmhouse Friday in May, we found so many charming houses that we decided that May should be summer rental month. If you haven’t booked your summer rental yet, here are more of our favorites below.

Upstate New York: Chatham, NY

This eyebrow colonial farmhouse is part of a 460 acre working farm, where guests are invited to gather fresh eggs for breakfast and wander the pastures. I love the bead board ceilings, and my favorite room is the downstairs den with exposed stone walls and wooden beams.

3 BR/2Bath

New England: Damariscotta, Maine

One of our favorite places to visit is near Damariscotta, and this perfectly decorated house would make a wonderful home. I love the touches of cornflower blue throughout the house – the kitchen cabinets, the upholstery on the living room ottoman, the Adirondack chairs outside.  Check out the wide fireplace that spans the dining room table too. And how luxurious is the master bedroom that fits a four poster bed?

Farmhouse Friday: Book Your Summer Rental (Part 2)

When we chose last week’s summer rentals for Farmhouse Friday, we found so many charming houses that we decided to make May summer rental month. Check out our favorites below, and then book your own summer vacation!

Upstate New York: Glenburnie, NY

This cottage near Lake George in Upstate New York is 105 years old and the oldest in the community. Enjoy the fireplace from the living room or out on the sprawling porch in some cozy Adirondack chairs. Take a swim in the lake or bring your boat to cruise around. While I’ve typically spent time on the west side of the lake, the east side is known to be quiet and isolated.

6 BR/3 Bath

New England: Grand Isle, Vermont

This beautiful 1920’s farmhouse in Grand Isle, Vermont offers beachfront access to Lake Champlain and stunning views of the Adirondack Mountains. You could enjoy many lazy afternoons in the spacious sun room or grab a kayak and head out on the lake. Afterwards, you can easily enjoy dinner or a show in nearby Burlington.

Farmhouse Friday: Book Your Summer Rental

Now that it’s May, we’re looking towards and preparing for summer weekends in the country. Rental houses are a great way to immerse yourself in the local lifestyle, and we’ve been to many wonderful rentals! We spent last Labor Day at this amazing log cabin in Woodstock, and two years ago, we rented this unique chalet in nearby Bearsville. We’re also getting very excited about staying at High Pocket Farm in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts in two weeks!

Hudson Valley: Woodstock, NY

This historic stone home is at the end of a private road and is only three minutes from Woodstock’s Village Green. The house has separate sitting and living rooms in addition to an enclosed dining porch.  Invite your friends and family to stay on your vacation too – with four bedrooms, there’s room for everyone.  If Woodstock’s swimming holes along the Esopus aren’t your speed, you can take a dip in the in ground pool.

4 BR/2 Bath

New England: Monhegan Island, Maine

Monhegan Island off the coast of Maine is such a special place. We got to visit a couple years back for a day hike while spending a week in Boothbay Harbor for our friend Kristy’s wedding. The small island and artist’s community has fewer than 50 year-round residents and boasts amazing views, hiking trails, picnic spots, and a wonderful art gallery displaying the work of a bevy of talented local artists.

This 3-bedroom rental offers a relaxing island getaway, with a deck on the ocean’s edge, a woodstove on the porch, beautiful knotty pine floors, and nooks around every corning for curling up with a glass of wine and a book.
