Small Town Travel Log: Junking Finds in DC/Frederick

What we haven’t mentioned about our amazing and successful junking trip to Maryland is what we found in Frederick and at the DC Big Flea! You may recognize some of these great finds from Katie and Rags’ upstairs and downstairs house tours too since we quickly integrated Katie’s finds into her decor.

Here’s a lovely close-up of Nipper, the RCA dog, one of Katie’s many dog decor finds.

Katie bought this ironstone pitcher and basin to top off her upstairs hallway table and added a few vintage spools to her built-in shelves in the living room. Erika and I each bought a wooden spool that make unique paper towel holders for the kitchen!

House Call: Katie and Rags’ Downstairs

Today we continue our house tour for Katie and Rags’ Potomac, Maryland farmhouse by exploring the downstairs. Last week, everyone enjoyed the upstairs house tour of the master bedroom, guest rooms and hallway.

The cozy living room is full of Katie’s handmade throw pillows, vintage prints, and eccentric tchotchkes. The first items that Katie and Rags bought for their new house were the new ceiling lights. Katie is also searching for the perfect area rug for near the couch and a runner in front of the built-ins to complete the room.

House Call: Katie and Rags’ Upstairs

Our friend Katie is the first of us to live the dream. Last fall, she and her husband Rags bought a farmhouse in Potomac, Maryland. While Erika and I had a quick house tour the weekend after they closed, this was the first visit after Katie and Rags moved in, and we’re excited to share their house with you. The best part of seeing their house was remembering where and when Katie found so many of the items since we typically go antiquing as a trio.

Let’s start upstairs in their three cozy bedrooms.

The master bedroom perfectly combines their two styles, with Rags’ nautical and outdoorsy influence infusing Katie’s Country Living style. Over the weekend, Katie found the brass oil lamp, vanity mirror and eggplant drawer pull to match her new brass and crystal chandelier. They bought the wood and iron bench on their recent five year anniversary trip in Upstate New York. I picked the claw foot side table at the Woodstock Flea Market for Katie for a steal, and she found the round wooden magazine basket during a junking trip to Essex, MA with Erika and me last summer.

Small Town Travel Log: Frederick, Maryland and The DC Big Flea

As we mentioned in last week’s Junkspiration, Erika and I went to Maryland to visit our college friend and fellow junker Katie. We woke up early on Saturday to go to to Frederick, Maryland, and then to the DC Big Flea Market on Sunday.

Frederick, Maryland

Our first stop in Frederick was Old Glory Antiques Market. With over 100 vendors, Old Glory has a wealth of housewares and decor. The pick of the day was a stunning brass and crystal chandelier that Katie and and her husband Rags found for their bedroom.  Erika and I liked the graphic look of these printing blocks and the colorful collection of perfectly preserved vintage hankies, and I picked up a few of the hankies to use as cocktail napkins.

Farmhouse Friday: Outside of DC

We’re taking our first business trip to Potomac, Maryland to visit our friend Katie this weekend! This “business trip” really just an excuse to go junking in Frederick, cook comfort food, stir up some delicious cocktails, and tablescape the weekend away. We couldn’t help but choose our favorite homes in the region for this Farmhouse Friday.

Old Town Alexandria, Virginia

Let’s start with some city living, in Alexandria, Virginia. This charming row house looks modest from the street, but is quite spacious inside. The house is on the Early Building Survey from the Historic Alexandria Foundation. I love the built-ins in the bedroom, the very well done renovation in the galley style kitchen, and the stunning brick-walled backyard.
