Hillsdale is just over the Massachusetts state line from Great Barrington and has a lovely downtown. In addition to the Hillsdale General Store, there was an ice cream shop and a country restaurant.
I love that most of the interior of this house is white washed, giving it an airy feel, and much of the bead board remains. The huge upstairs bedroom looks perfect for big groups, and the master bedroom has a wood burning stove!
We’re taking our first business trip to Potomac, Maryland to visit our friend Katie this weekend! This “business trip” really just an excuse to go junking in Frederick, cook comfort food, stir up some delicious cocktails, and tablescape the weekend away. We couldn’t help but choose our favorite homes in the region for this Farmhouse Friday.
Old Town Alexandria, Virginia
Let’s start with some city living, in Alexandria, Virginia. This charming row house looks modest from the street, but is quite spacious inside. The house is on the Early Building Survey from the Historic Alexandria Foundation. I love the built-ins in the bedroom, the very well done renovation in the galley style kitchen, and the stunning brick-walled backyard.
I just love the look of rustic, old fireplace tools. They seem to harken back to a time when every room had its own fireplace and homes had a cozy kind of glow. These sets I found during a lunchtime escape to a little consignment gallery around the corner from my office in Cambridge. A few similar and unique sets can be found here, here, and here. How often do you build fires?
