Farmhouse Friday: Brick Beauties

There’s something special about brick houses as they grow old with age, with a patina that can’t be faked. So today, instead of sprawling country and clapboard farmhouses, we’re dreaming of in-town brick beauties.

Hudson Valley: Catskill, NY

This brick octagon house is one of a handful scattered across America, and I remember admiring a similar house in Westfield, NY near where I grew up. The unique shape makes for a dramatic spiral center staircase and floor plan.  I love the porch that wraps around the front three sides and the black shutters on all of the windows.

Farmhouse Friday: Outside of DC

We’re taking our first business trip to Potomac, Maryland to visit our friend Katie this weekend! This “business trip” really just an excuse to go junking in Frederick, cook comfort food, stir up some delicious cocktails, and tablescape the weekend away. We couldn’t help but choose our favorite homes in the region for this Farmhouse Friday.

Old Town Alexandria, Virginia

Let’s start with some city living, in Alexandria, Virginia. This charming row house looks modest from the street, but is quite spacious inside. The house is on the Early Building Survey from the Historic Alexandria Foundation. I love the built-ins in the bedroom, the very well done renovation in the galley style kitchen, and the stunning brick-walled backyard.
