This refreshing summer cocktail is extremely versatile to suit your tastes and available ingredients! You can make it with any of your favorite berries (in the winter or early spring, use defrosted berries). If you prefer seedless, strain your muddled berries before mixing your cocktail. Add as much or as little liquor as you’d like (it’s great with bourbon, gin or with nothing at all). And for the lemonade, use your favorite bottled brand, Martha’s recipe below, or even make a diet lemonade with Splenda.
Recently, I used Four Roses bourbon, my favorite organic lemonade brand, Santa Cruz, and combined it with fresh, unstrained, muddled blackberries. But with all of the options available, variations of this recipe will be enjoyed all summer long! I already know we’ll be sipping on this recipe when we’re in Shelburne Falls, MA next weekend.
Berry Smash Lemonade
2 oz bourbon or gin
6-8 blackberries, raspberries, strawberries or blueberries (about 1/8 cup per glass)
8 oz lemonade (try Martha’s recipe)
Lemon peel for garnish
In a glass, muddle berries with a splash of lemonade until pureed. Fill your glass with ice and pour in bourbon and lemonade. Best enjoyed outdoors on your porch or stoop (or on a picnic blanket).
