Farmhouse Friday is how we dream about country living each week. Speaking of dreaming, let’s look to the very high end: around $1 million.
Hudson Valley: Woodstock, NY
We stumbled upon this house during our last visit to Woodstock during an evening stroll. Perched on the top of Ohayo Mountain, this 13 acre retreat includes an in-ground pool, picturesque lake, and a separate guest cottage. At the heart of the main structure, is a 1850 farmhouse. One of Norm Magnusson‘s contemporary art installations, targeting global warming, is near the property, and there is a small farm where we visited a newborn goat just down the road.
It’s rare to love the bathrooms in old homes, but this balances modern and relaxing. The soaring ceilings and bead board clad walls are a nod to the history of the house.
4 BR/4 Bath; 19 Montoma Lane, Woodstock NY; $999,000
New England: Portsmouth, NH
I’ve always had a love for the small seaside town of Portsmouth, NH with its quaint coffee shops, ship-lined harbor, and history of gorgeous colonial homes. This 1870 New Englander is literally a dream come true, with original maple wood floors and plenty of tucked away nooks and built-ins.
The open kitchen-dining room and living area with their wood beams and french door cabinets have been featured in nation-wide home decor magazines.
5 BR/2 Bath + 2 Half Bath; 295 Broad Street, Portsmouth NH; $999,999
